Adult Sailing Programs on Lake Simcoe

Sailing School Cancelled

Under the advice of Ontario Sailing and the Board we have made the decision to cancel the Sailing School for the summer of 2020. We have considered many options but due to safety concerns, we do not see a possible outcome where we can maintain a safe social distance while running a sailing school. For the health of our students, instructors and volunteers we have decided to cancel. We hope to see you next year.

Adult Sailing Programs

1. Adult CANSail Learn To Sail

The sessions run from 5:30 – 8:30 pm Tuesday evenings. (7 sessions beginning the first week in July)

CanSail is designed as a progressive set of standards focused on a foundation of core sailing skills. Each Cansail level has a checklist of associated skills that must be consistently performed by each sailor to achieve certification at that level. A sailor progresses thru the levels consolidating knowledge and experience over time.

CANSail 1 thru 4 introduce fundamental sailing skills. As the first step in learning to sail a small boat, you’ll learn about the different parts of the boat, and learn some basics sailing skills  - like tiller steering and proper body position.

The Learn to Sail program is an excellent opportunity to introduce the older folks to the exciting world of sailing. The adult learn to sail program is a “low pressure” approach to sailing that combines classroom sessions with on the water time with dinghies. This is an excellent introduction to the sport of sailing as it provides the fundamentals of boat handling and sail trim in a fun and easy to learn atmosphere.
